Trip Overview

This amazing adventure combines the diversity of spectacular views of the Himalayas with a vast number of exciting ethnic encounters. The highlights of Langtang Circuit trek are numerous however the main areas of interest are the rhododendron and bamboo forests with an abundance of wildlife, majestic waterfalls flowing over mammoth boulders, a chance to bathe in soothing hot springs, magnificent views of the snow covered white giant Langtang Lirung (7,200m), Visiting the holy lakes of Gosainkund.

Langtang, Gosainkunda & Helambu trek begin in the ancient city of Kathmandu; from where you will board a bus to Syabrubesi; the starting point of your trek. This is an interesting village on the banks of the Bhote Kosi River. The trail gains elevation as you make your way along the Langtang Khola, first through forests of oak and rhododendron and then bamboo forests on the higher reaches of the trail. Traveling through Langtang (3,430m), you will reach the Langtang valley and the friendly Sherpa village of Kyanjing Gompa (3,870m). In Kyanjing Gompa you will experience the spiritual lifestyle of dedicated Buddhist monks who perform their rituals in a beautiful Monastery dating back to circa 1300 A.D. Early in the morning you will ascend Tserko Ri (5,000m/16,404ft) for tremendous view of the Langtang Lirung (7,200m) range. A short hike will also be taken to a magnificent glacial moraine (4,300m), which can be climbed depending on the time factor and offers more spectacular views of Langtang Lirung and the foot of one of its major glaciers. There will also be the opportunity of visiting a traditional cheese factory, where the produce is manufactured by hand. Once in Chadan Bari (3,330m), having traveled through Lama Hotel, you can relish magnificent views of the towering snow-covered Ganesh Himal (7,600m) and Langtang -II (7,227m) peaks. If lucky you might be able to spot the shy Red Panda that inhabits the Langtang region. Moving on to Gosainkund, watch the sun rise over a multitude of glistening Lakes of this sacred pilgrimage site. It is believed that Lord Shiva created the holy lake with his trident. After Laurebinayak pass (4,609m) you will also trek through some beautiful rice terraces and a number of splendid Buddhist monasteries around the delightful villages of Tarke Gyang and Sermathang (2,621m), before heading back to Kathmandu.

Detail Itinerary

DAY 01: Kathmandu (1300m)

Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport (KTM). After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our representative with a Sherpa Holidays’  display board at the arrival gate and you will be picked up by one of our representative or your trip leader.You will be then transferred to hotel.After check in, you can either take a rest, wander around in the city,it all depends upon your interests and condition. In the evening we will organize a “Welcome Dinner” at an excellent traditional Nepalese Restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program followed by a set Nepali dish(Dal Bhat) for dinner.

DAY 02:  Kathmandu : Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today after breakfast your trek leader will introduce you to rest of the members of the group and brief you about the trek . After the group briefing, you will be taken for a guided sightseeing tour to two of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Both of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites; including the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and the famous Buddhists shrine (Bouddhanath) which is one of the largest Stupas in the world. After lunch you have an opportunity to prepare yourself for the entire trip and next day’s drive to Syabru Besi.

Day 03 – Drive to Sybru Bensi (1550m)   6 hour’s drive

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about six hours by bus or Land cruiser depending on group size. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli river you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. As you pass through Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards deep land. At the same time, you notice that the road is still under construction. Sybru Bensi the cool town with the excellent view. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 04 – Trek to Lama Hotel (2380meters)   6 hours.

Today, the first part of the trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail gradually climbs to Bamboo passing through the landslide area. Afterwards, your trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400meters) through Bamboo (1960meters) which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola. You can have lunch at this place if you like. Your trail is level to the Lama Hotel. En route you could see red pandas, monkeys and bears if you’re lucky. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 5 : Lama Hotel – Langtang (3430m)   6 hours

Ascending through the forest,we will have glimpses of Langtang Lirung through the trees, before arriving at Ghoda Tabela (3,048m). There was once a Tibetan resettlement project here, but now the only residents are the soldiers of the Nepalese army post.And we stop for lunch in Ghoda Tabela before the Army check post.After lunch the trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock here in the summer months. In spring the forests are ablaze with rhododendrons. Shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang (3,307m), headquarters of the Langtang National Park there is a monastery, which we might be able to visit. In Langtang the houses here are Tibetan style and are surrounded by fields of wheat, buckwheat and potatoes. Above the village yaks and other cattle graze.

Day 6 : Langtang – Kyanjin (3850m)    4 hours

As we continue our climb beyond the village, the valley opens out to reveal spectacular mountain views.To our left the impressive Langtang Lirung towers directly above us and ahead is the great snow-covered bulk of Ganchempo. At 3,849m we come to the monastery of Kyanjin, well above the Langtang River. In the afternoon we can either head up a side valley to the foot of the Langtang and Kyimoshung glaciers, or climb onto some of the surrounding ridges for close up views of Langtang Lirung and the beautiful so called Fluted Peak.

Day 7 : Acclimatization day at Kyanjin (3870m)

we spend a day at Kyanjin Gompa with a chance to explore the area. There are various optional day walks around here. The most popular walk is up to Kyanjin Ri (4,350m) and Kyimoshung Ri (4,620m). These two viewpoints above Kyanjin gompa offer some of the most stunning mountain views in Nepal. An impressive array of peaks surrounds us – Langtang Lirung and Kyimoshung whose huge glaciers tumble to the valley floor. Straddling the Tibetan border are Dorje Lhakpa, Ganchempo and a whole host of 6,000+m peaks whilst across the valley are Naya Kang and the Ganja La pass.And we also do the trainings with ropes ang all your climbing equipment to get the basic climbing knowledge on the same day in the afternoon.

DAY 08:  Trek back to Lama Hotel (2380m)     5-6 hours  

After breakfast, proceed to Lama Hotel. Since, its mostly downhill, it is 5-6 hours walk from Kanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel. The trail goes all the way down hill through forest following the river. Pass through the ethnic Tamang settlements who follow religious and cultural  practices similar to the Tibetans.

DAY 09:  Lama Hotel – Thulo Syabru (2230m)   5-6 hours

First trail decent to river, cross the river and ascend to Thulo Syabru. You will see the fascinating view of Langtang Himal and more. On the way of your trek you will pass through pine and Juniper forests. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.

DAY 10:  Thulo Syabru – Shin gumbo (3330m)   5-6 hours

You take the broad trail climbing up to Dimsa village and the trial continues less steeply, through rhododendron, hemlock and Oak forests to Shin gomba. On the way of your trek you will see fantastic views of Langtang Himala and langtang valley. Shin gomba is another popular place for Cheese. Over night in Shin gumbo.

DAY 11:  Shin gomba- Gosainkunda (4460m)   5-6hours

The trail ascends smoothly through rhododendron covered point to the top of the rim and through a forested area. The area in-between Shin gomba and Laurebina Yak is a sanctuary for the red panda, an endangered species that the Nepalese call cat bear. You return to the ridge path and climb a wider route through alpine country to arrive at a Gosainkunda. Explore around the Lakes and overnight in Gosainkunda.

DAY 12:  Gosainkunda- Gopte (3440m)    7-8 hours

Today is a bit challenge day; the trail is climb, rough and crosses moraines. Passing three more small lakes, the trail ascend and cross Laurebinayak La (4,609m) after the pass, the path down to phedi and you continue walk up and down through out crossing a rocky hill with pine, rhododendron trees. Overnight in Gopte.

DAY 13:  Gopte- Malemchigaon (2560m)    6-7 hours

You slide down through a forested area and climb through a dry river-bed to arrive at a Kharka that is surrounded by rhododendron forest. You climb through the forest to arrive at the village of Thare Pati. Climbing the ridge directly above the village gives you a marvelous view of the Jugal area. Cross the village and enter a forested area, again descending to Melamchi River followed by yet again climbing to the Malemchigaon for overnight.

DAY 14:  Malemchigaon – Tarke Gyang (2590m)    6-7 hours

The day you enter a cultural destination it call Helambu Region, walk up to Tarke Gyang where you can enjoy with Sherpa culture with traditional village and monasteries. The stone houses are close together with narrow alleyways separating them. Overnight in Tarke Gyang.

DAY 15:  Tarke Gyang- Sermathang (2610m)   5-6 hours

You will cross small forest with the view of beautiful village of Helembu region. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sharpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan. Overnight in Sermathang.

DAY 16:  Sermathang – Melamchi Puul Bazaar – Kathmandu      ( 3-4 hours walk 2 hours bus )

Short walk down to Malemchi Puul Bazaar with many Sherpa village and catch transport to Katmandu.Congratulations on the completion of your trek! Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 17:  Final Departure

The journey within the mountains of Nepal comes to an end today!If you have more time then you can do some shopping or just wander around thamel and relax before your flight. At last approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight, your leader will escorts you to the airport.
